As a bit of fun today we posted a 3D version of our logotype on the college walls of Edinburgh College of Art. We have had a really fun year with all the year-groups involved, and it is sad to say goodbye. We love you guys!

Fuck Up

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

“One of the hidden gems of screen-printing is the beauty of the “test print.” Because screen prints are created one color, one layer at a time, the artists often test each layer before they start the print run. They often use left over prints, pages from old runs, and even misprinted paper. The test prints slowly gather more and more layers of color and artwork from dozens of different jobs. It’s not unusual for a test print to find itself run through the press more than two dozen times. The resulting prints are always unique and are always surprising. Because test prints are a pragmatic by-product of the actual printing process, these pieces of art contain a spontaneous and reckless emotion that is impossible for an artist to plan. Once a print is started no one knows exactly what the end results will look like. The process itself allows for so much randomness that the imperfections are embraced rather than shunned and accidents frequently become the highlight of the piece.”

- Eric Nyffeler and Michael Nielsen, curators of “Fuck Up” exhibition in Nebraska; an ode to the test print.

These guys put together a 16 layer print with the test prints from the artists in their show. Sweeeeet. (via: For Print Only)

4 layers/11 layers

14 layer/16 layers

Challenge Bic

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

BiC® Cristal® http://www.challengebic.co.uk unveils the results of a challenge to artist James Mylne, to recreate a well known masterpiece using just one BiC® Cristal® pen. The reproduction of The Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer, took artist James approx 90 hours to complete, but thanks to its long writing length and oil based ink, just a single pen was needed to finish the work.

ooooo Shit Hot Or Shite?

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

-Photographer RYAN McGINLEY has been keeping busy with beautiful, high-profile corporate work lately (see his visual tribute to the 2010 winter Olympics), and his photo essay and short film celebrating the new LEVIS x OPENING CEREMONY collab is a prime example. The legendary denim brand has laid dormant on the creative culture side of things for some time now, but under the leadership of new marketing director CHRISTIAN PARKES, Levis is now poised to reassert itself in a culture it has always been an organic part of in the coming years.

I can’t decide whether or not I even like this.
